My sculpture work is heavily influenced by nature and the modernists of the early decades of the twentieth century. I explore forms in wood that are rhythmic, fluid and structured.
Every sculpture demonstrates my respect for wood and the unique qualities that each wood species has to offer. Knots, cracks and grain colorations reveal the history and life of a tree and are kept in plain view to achieve works that are delicate, dulcet, balanced yet unpredictable. I draw upon forms that pull the viewer in to touch and feel the piece—the contrasts of crisp, sharp edges with smooth, anamorphic surfaces.
